The letter to the Asian churches in Beatus and Revelation

1.1-The angel transmits to John the divine letters that he must send to the seven Asian Churches: Sardis, Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Thyatira, Philadelphia and Laodicea

The beatos are copies of the Commentaries on the Apocalypse by Beatus of Liébana that respect its text and the theme and situation of the images, although each miniaturist interpreted it according to their imagination, its technical characteristics and its quality.

Although the European Apocalypses were not copies of the Beatus Commentary, as they also follow the book of Saint John of Patmos, many of their images coincide in position and theme with those of the Beatus.

This image appears in most of the Blesseds and Apocalypses that we present on this page, in which we can see, in chronological order, its version in fifteen of the Blesseds of the sixteen of which Jean-Luc Monneret has been able to obtain all his images, we also find it. We emphasize that it is a special case with respect to most of the images studied, because there is no common line in its structure, which depends solely on the imagination, style and quality of its authors.
