MONASTERIO DE SAN LORENZO DE SOUS (R)
Description
Placed on an eremitorio documented from the year 871, the monastery was founded under Saint Bennedict´s rule in the first half of the 11th century, when the Romanesque church of plant basilical was constructed, with three naves and three semicircular apses, all this covered with vaults of stone. Later a rectangular porch was added to the feet of the basilica and a rectangular dependence that should serve as room of the monks. The monastery was extended in the 13th century up to acquiring the current form, in ruins after Mendizábal’s disentailment and nowadays in process of restoration.
