In the northwest of the peninsula and in areas far from the usual trips there are several truly exceptional Visigoth and Mozarabic monuments that, within our collaboration with www.claseshistoriadelarte.com, we have visited on a three-day trip to the “PRERROMANICO EN EL ENTORNO DE ORENSE”.
We leave on October 21 in the afternoon to visit on Saturday 22 San Fructuoso de Montelios, Santa Comba de Bande and San Miguel de Celanova, while on Sunday, back to Madrid we took the opportunity to visit Santa María de Mixós y San Pedro de la Nave, in addition to being able to walk for a while in the Romanesque Zamora. You can not see in such a short time such an interesting set of Pre-romanesque Art!
The mausoleum that San Fructuoso was built around 660 in his bishopric of Braga and that is the first Visigoth cruciform building, no doubt inspired by the Mausoleum of Gala Placidia and San Vital, both very close to Ravenna, and then we visit in Santa Comba de Bande the first Visigoth cruciform church built possibly also at the request of San Fructuoso in a lost place of his bishopric, to see the next day how far the development of the Visigoth cruciform churches reached in the exceptional San Pedro de la Nave.

The trip has been so interesting that we are thinking of organizing it again for spring 2017. You can see the impressions about this trip sent to us by our friend and hard-working traveler Mercedes Rosúa in“Huellas del futuro”
