The proposed trip is known as Soria’s Route of St. James, that runs along an ancient Roman road.

It starts at the town of Ágreda, known as the villa of the three cultures, since already in the Middle Ages it was an important focal point of craftwork where three religions lived together. In this township we find St. Miguel’s Tower, attached to the homonymous church in Gothic style.

The next stopover is the capital of the province: Soria, which counts with the church of St. Domingo, famous for being the only one in this region with the French style of the region of Poitou, probably due to the presence of Leonor of England, daughter of Leonor de Aquitania and wife of the monarch Alphonse the Eight.
The tour proceeds through the township of Calatañazor, where, according to the legend, “Almanzor perdió su tambor” (Almanzor lost his drum). It has the declaration of National Historic Artistic Ensemble since 1962. There we find the Romanesque hermitage of  La Soledad, at the feet of the ruins of the castle.

The next stop is Burgo de Osma, the township that hosts the magnificent Cathedral de la Anunciación, an impressive building in Gothic style built upon the old Romanesque cathedral from the 12th century, of which only a pair of double communication arches remain between the chapter hall and the cloister, located on the northern side of the temple.

The trip concludes at the town of St. Esteban de Gormaz, where two Romanesque monuments stand out: the church of St. Miguel, built at the end of the 11th century, which has the most ancient porticoed gallery in the region, and the church of Nuestra Señora del Rivero or “El Rivero”, built later, with many similarities in both of them.

Planned visits: Torre de St. Miguel de Ágreda, St. Domingo de Soria, hermitage de la Soledad, Cathedral de la Asunción, church of St. Miguel and Nuestra Señora del Rivero.

-Total approximate distance of the trip: 128 Km.

Type of recommended stay: Rural accomodations in the surroundings of Soria.
